David Bowie iza sebe ostavio je više od četrdeset albuma i isto toliko pojavljivanja u raznim filmovima, ali i popis knjiga za čitanje koji broji stotinu naslova.

„Can lend us a book, we can read up alone”, stih je iz Bowiejeve pjesme Drive-In Saturday s albuma Aladdin Sane (1973.). A kako bi svatko uživao u samoći čitanja, Bowie je 2013. na svojim službenim stranicama podijelio svoj popis knjiga za čitanje nastao u sklopu izložbe „David Bowie Is”.

Popis je obuhvatio šest desetljeća suvremenih naslova otkrivši veliku ljubav prema klasicima, stripovima američkim autorima (Truman Capote, Saul Bellow, Jack Kerouac…), britanskim (George Orwell, Ian McEwan…) te velikim imenima kao što su Mishima i Bulgakov.
